How To Crochet The Even Berry Stitch (US Terms)

The even stitch is one of the easiest textured fabrics to create. With the right yarn weight and hook combo you can create a really sturdy yet flexible fabric, perfect for basket, bags, and mats.

This pattern is written in US terminology

STITCHES & ABBREVIATIONS

ST(S) - Stitch(es)

CH - Chain stitch

SL ST - Slip stitch

YO - Yarn over

SK - Skip

SC - Single crochet

Berry St - Berry stitch

BERRY STITCH

YO, insert hook into next ST, and pull back through ST.

YO, pull through 1st loop on hook.

YO and insert hook into same ST, yarn over and pull back through ST.

YO, pull through 1st loop on hook.

YO, pull through all 5 loops on hook, CH1.

FOUNDATION

Chain in multiples of 2.

PATTERN

Row 1: SK 2 CH (counts as first SC). 1 SC in 3rd CH from the hook. 1 SC in every CH. Turn.

Row 2: CH1 (counts as first SL ST). *1 Berry ST in next ST. SL ST into next ST. Repeat from* finish with a SC in the turning CH. Turn.

Row 3: CH2 (counts as first SC). *SL ST in next Berry ST. 1 SC in next SL ST. Repeat from* finish with a SC in the turning CH. Turn.

Row 4: CH1 (counts as first SL ST). *1 Berry ST in next ST. SL ST into next ST. Repeat from* finish with a SC in the turning CH. Turn.

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until you reach your desired length.
